Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a totally original authentic German WWII Wehrmacht Heer Army Camp Flag, measuring a modest 17" x 3", brought back home by USGI's after the war. The design is essentially a smaller version of the standard NSDAP party flag, with a large Swas (Hook Cross or Swas) in the center of a white circle on a red field. This example made of cotton or linen, the standard materials for flags of the period, and is double sided.
It was used as a "collection display" for the servicemen who brought it back, who signed their names onto one of the two attached NSDAP armbands. These appear to be BOB HOWARD, C.O. BOYLE, and DALTON PIERCE. There is also a "7 J.H." on the armband, but we do not know if these are initials, or a unit marking.
The 11 items are attached to the flag mostly by stitches, and we believe them to be WWII period, however with the U.S. badges that is nearly impossible to tell. The items include:
- U.S. Army 13th Armored Division "Black Cats" Divisional Insignia. This unit existed from Oct 1942 to Nov 1945
- U.S. Army Airborne Glider Operations Command Patch
- U.S. Army Enlisted Garrison Cap Airborne Glider badge
- U.S. "Ruptured Duck" Honorable Service Emblem lozenge badge.
- German WWII Later War NSDAP Armband - Single Piece Dyed Cotton Construction
- German WWII Early War NSDAP Armband - Multipiece Wool with Rayon Moire circle and multi-piece Swas (hook cross).
- German WWII Luftwaffe Cap Eagle
- German WWII HJ German Youth Organization Badge
- German WWII Luftwaffe Cap Insignia Trapezoid with Eagle and Cockade
- German WWII Luftwaffe EM/NCO Cloth Embroidered Observer Badge
- German WWII Luftwaffe Vehicle Driver Specialist Badge
Condition is very good, though there definitely is wear and some tears on the flag. There also are some stitches which no longer have anything attached, so there were probably more items in the flag originally.
