Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very rare and well-used 1st Pattern NSKK Crash Helmet, complete with the owners name written inside. The helmet is made of molded, smooth, blackened leather helmet with raised, padded, protective bars running horizontally around the helmets bottom edge, and another one running from front to back over the crown top. This early version of the helmet only has two small ventilation holes on each side, unlike the later versions, which had more, sometimes with mesh covering.

The Front center of helmet features a first pattern national eagle, with no NSKK marking. The eagle looks to be of nickel alloy, and is still held in its correct position, with a lovely greenish patina from years of age. Helmet has a short blackened leather visor stitched to front and stitched on, extended, blackened, grained, leather, protective side and rear panels. Side panels are solid, without the "ear flaps" added in the 2nd pattern. However, this helmet looks to have been modified, and probably had earphones installed at one time, based on the stitching holes on the side flaps. The side panels also have extended straps to bottoms which act as the chinstrap. Interior of helmet has a tan leather, seven finger liner. Liner is fully intact, but does show wear, as does the rear skirt and side flaps.

The rear skirt has a name and unit number written on the inside:

Kiefel Hans
73. / M77.

Hans Kiefel used this helmet, and was most likely part of Motorsturm 77, with this being the 73rd helmet they had. It saw extensive use, as indicated by the large amount of honest wear, which gives it very nice broken in look.

An excellent example of a very hard to find helmet. Ready research and display!
