Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice totally Original WWII German 2nd Model Naval Dagger by Paul Weyersberg & Co.

You don’t see many Paul Weyersberg Naval Daggers on the market so it is a pleasure to get one. and this is a wonderful textbook example.

Thankfully the vast majority of the gilding remains on the mounts of this dagger. The pommel is a fine classic Weyerberg. It has great detail to the bird’s head, breast feathering, wings, talons, wreath and swas. The pommel features the larger center block area that we usually see with this producer.

Both sides of the crossguards are decorated with raised acanthus leaves and the end buttons have deep accent engravings with nipples that stick out fairly far. The lock and release button works perfectly but the cap of the button itself is missing.

The grip is a carved wood base having a covering of celluloid. The celluloid has turned an ivory-like color and is in perfect condition. This grip is wrapped with a thin twisted brass wire.

The scabbard is a lightning bolt variety. It is straight throughout with the exception of one small ding 2.5" up from the base. This scabbard is very deeply stamped featuring palmettes on either side of the carrying bands, and at the lower part are the lightning bolts, ermine feet and acanthus leaves.

The bands are fairly high off the surface and they feature overlapping oak leaves and acorns. The eyelets have triple serrated surfaces showing no wear. The throat is retained by one flatter head screw, one side is missing a screw. This scabbard has the same gilt as the hilt mounts with lots of gilding remaining.

The blade is a triple etched variety. It is nice and bright throughout having quality nickel-plated finish still with needlelike tip. The etch pattern is the fouled anchor variety and it has all of the frosted backgrounds. This blade appears to be in excellent condition.

The fouled anchor etch is nicely raised and is presented well with the darker frosted backgrounds. The reverse ricasso is etched with the double ovals used by this firm. The firm’s name is contained within the ovals as well as the location, Paul Weyersberg and Co. Solingen In the center are is a downward pointing sword positioned between two wheat shafts. The blade buffer is a dark brown leather.

A high quality example here with the vast majority of the gilding still present. If you are collecting WWII German daggers this naval type this is a wonderful textbook piece to add to your collection.
