The Book outlines fourteen harrowing stories of the capture and transport of American Airmen to the Prison Camp Stalag Luft 1. In addition, it also contains poems, copies of the camp newspaper, photographs, and (most importantly- especially invaluable to a researcher) a directory of the prisoners held at the camp with their rank, type of aircraft flown, unit, and home addresses.
The prisoners paid for a copy of the yet-to-be-published book while still held captive at Stalag Luft I, and the book was published by the author after his release and return to the states with the funds received from his fellow prisoners or their families. This is an exceptionally rare out of print work, and an exceptional primary source. A “must have” for the collector or researcher of WWII P.O.W.s!
