Original British WWI Royal Flying Corps Visor Cap Sold in Calcutta - circa 1914

Item Description

Original Item: One Only. This is quite remarkable. It is an early WW1 Royal Flying Corp visor hat actually retailed in CULCUTTA, India. It bears the makers details embossed in gold into the sweatband:

D. MORRISON & CO.
Hatters and Outfitters,
Calcutta

It is well made in khaki serge, possibly in India but probably in England. It has it's black leather peak and chin strap. Quality leather marked headband and quilted lining to top interior. It retains its brass King's Crown over R.F.C. cap badge and shows just a couple of moth nips to the serge fabric. Immensely rare bearing a Calcutta label.

The Royal Flying Corps was Britain's Air Force's title during the First World War. It only became known as the "Royal Air Force" on April 1st, 1918, not long before the war ended on November 11th 1918.
