Original British Pre-WWI Regimental Bugle dated 1901 - Unit and Maker Marked

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The First World War which started just 104 years ago in 1914 was initially a very patriotic war. All sorts of Regiments were raised, expanded and added Volunteer Battalions to help in the "Great Crusade" using the catch phrase:-

IT'LL ALL BE OVER BY CHRISTMAS!!

How wrong they were!

Here is a Pre-WWI Regimental Bugle, of perfectly standard brass and copper construction made and has a regimental unit marking stamped into the bell:

2
1st. C. & C.R.G.A.

We have done some cursory research, but have not been able to identify what this unit marking means. It could be related to the British First Cavalry Division, which saw service in WWI. Below the unit marking, it has a detailed maker marking as well:

(Broad Arrow)
52
HENRY KEAT & SONS
105 & 103
MATTHIAS Rd
LONDON
N
1901

This Bugle, which is totally authentic, has the usual dents seen in a bugle that saw field use. It does not have any lanyard loops, and does not appear to have been made with them. It has a great patina of age, with a lovely oxidized copper and brass finish, and still has its original mouthpiece, attached to the instrument with a chain. We tested it out, and it also still sounds clearly and correctly.

A great antique bugle that probably saw service in "The Great War," ready to display or even use!
