Original Items: One Set only. Flying Officer HARRY YARWOOD LEWIS was a Canadian. We know this from his original World War One Royal Flying Corp Side Cap marked with his name, H.Y.LEWIS and from the fact that the small front buttons of the side cap are those of his original Canadian Regiment displaying a Maple Leaf under CANADA.
We have found that Harry Yarwood Lewis was born in August 1883, and was commissioned a Flying Officer in RFC Canada 13 Oct 1917. He was then injured in an aircraft crash at Camp Borden 25 Oct 1917, and once recovered was with Hq RFC Canada in Toronto 1 Jan 1918. He was subsequently wounded in a hostile bombing raid 24 Aug 1918.
This totally original WW1 Royal Flying Corp Side Cap still retains its full padded liner on which H.Y.LEWIS is nicely hand printed in twice. The Cap is in excellent condition however shows a fair amount of much use and is still in very collectible condition. Identified RFC items are hard to find. Well worthy of further research.
Included is a bow of miscellaneous buttons, Officer's pips badges and medal ribbons including a derelict pair of Flying goggles that were found together with the Side Cap in the Lewis family's attic.
