Original U.S. WWII Female US Army Nurse Corps Physical Therapist Converted Ike Style Uniform Jacket

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely uniform belonging to a Physical Therapist in the US Army Nurse Corps during WWII. At the start of the war in December 1941, there were fewer than 1,000 nurses in the Army Nurse Corps and 700 in the Navy Nurse Corps. All were women.

Colonel Flikke's small headquarters in 1942, though it contained only 4 officers and 25 civilians, supervised the vast wartime expansion of nurses, in cooperation with the Red Cross. She only took unmarried women age 22–30 who had their RN training from civilian schools. These nurses were commissioned for a term that lasted the duration of the war plus six months, but they were discharged if they married or became pregnant.

The uniform appears to have been converted from their Dress uniform and tailored to have the appearance of an Ike Jacket. The uniform is in good condition and features beautiful caduceus insignia on each collar with a PT in the center for Physical Therapist. There are no names or laundry numbers present, but that does not take away from the beauty of the item!

Comes more than ready for further research and display.
