Original Scottish Black Watch Officer's Mess Dress Tunic with Tartan Waistcoat - circa 1881-1931

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Does anyone "Dress" for dinner any more? Well they do in the British Army and no doubt in the other Services as well.
Here is an original Red MESS DRESS TUNIC, worn by a serving Officer in THE BLACK WATCH, THE ROYAL HIGHLANDERS, for dinners and social occasions between 1881 and 1931. Just what one might have seen in Downton Abbey.

The red tunic features a Navy Blue collar and Cuffs, and is cutaway at the waist. It sports Gilt Regimental Buttons, each marked THE ROYAL HIGHLANDERS / THE BLACK WATCH, along with the regimental emblem. The Officer, as shown by the pips on his shoulder boards, was a Captain in the regiment. Comes complete with its Tartan Waist Coat also bearing the same Regimental Black Watch buttons.

In very nice condition but some deterioration to the silk lining in the inside collar area. Otherwise just great. Days gone by, which is such a shame, Being from perhaps 100 years ago rather small for today's gentleman. All you need is a dress shirt with standard dress pants together with the body of a 12-14 year old in today's sizes and you'll be ready for a late Victorian Dinner Party!
