Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Toward the end of WWII Imperial Japan was starved of raw materials and factories. The need to more equipment was dire and the IJA used what was available. This is an extremely rare Type 90 Civil defense helmet which was issued for use in the Imperial Japanese Army, hence the addition of the star which was added to the front.
The Japanese WWII Civil Defense helmet was the final of four variations of the Type 90 Army helmet and was designed specifically for mainland civil defense.
Overall condition is very good with correct brown paint. There is some scuffing and a dent on the top of the helmet, giving it an overall lovely used patina. Inside is a late war cotton mesh liner, which is somewhat degraded, and still has the original mesh chin strap, which is also in delicate condition.
This helmet looks to have been "dressed up" a bit by the collector who owned it, as the helmet net may be post war, and the yellow paint on the star does look somewhat newer than the rest of the helmet.
This is a rare and little known variation of the military issue type 90 Tetsubo helmet, making this example a necessity for any Japanese WWII headgear collection.
