Better Than Expected Review by George

I've cleaned up a couple of other "untouched" guns from IMA, so I knew pretty much what to expect. This one arrived in less than one week from my order on "Black Friday", and with the 10% holiday discount, I'd say it was an excellent value. The stock and lock are in decent shape, mostly just requiring cleaning and one crack repair. Original parts missing are the buttplate, patchbox cover, rear sight, and nosecap, but a repro brass buttplate and repro patchbox cover were included in the package. The patchbox cover was not mentioned in the IMA description, and was an unexpected extra. Also, instead of coming with the iron hilted bayonet as described, it came with the brass hilted bayonet that usually goes with the rifled Brunswicks.

Remeber: Luck of the Draw Review by Justin

Ordered one of these on a weekend special for $275, it took over a week before it would ship, while people who ordered after me got theirs quicker.

The musket was dirty and the stock had numerous cracks, but cleaned up great and with a mirror bright bore. However, there are two cracks in the barrel so this is a non shooter, and I'm really quite bummer about it, having sold a nice M38 Carcano and bayonet to acquire it. The parts gun is an option, but I have heard from several people the underlugs on the barrels for the barrel keys are not in the same place, meaning one barrel will not interchange with another. If you take it to a gunsmith you can probably have new underlugs added, but between that and the cost of a parts gun you are better off taking your chances on a new gun.

I've bought three untouched guns from IMA, this one, a P1853, and a British Martini Henry Mk II (unmarked). The British gun was in superb condition, the 1853 needed gunsmith time, and this one is nothing but a pretty wall hangar. British guns are generally shooters, but with any of the Nepalese made be sure when buying you understand that you might not get a shooter. Stock cracks can be fixed, locks and nipples can be fixed, but cracks in the barrel are showstoppers, and you are only likely to find them, as I did, after you remove all of the Yak fat and dirt, which also means you can't return the rifle.

The bayonet was pretty good, although it was so bent up that the musket could not have been fired with it on, as the blade dangled over the muzzle. Cleaned up very nicely though.

I received my Brunswick P-1841 smooth bore musket and bayonet yesterday. It was very well packed and came in good condition. The lock plate is in very good working condition. The stock is very solid with a few worm holes scattered here and there but that just makes it shows its age there are also a few very minor cracks but nothing bad at all. I am very pleased with it Thanks You All Very Much. Tommy

I have ordered 3 untouched firearms from IMA, and have been very happy with all of them. Getting MORE than what you expect seems to be business-as-usual with this company. My latest purchase was a Brunswick P-1841 smooth bore musket and bayonet. It arrived in great, but " gunky" condition (as expected), and was only missing the rear sight.

I have not long recieved my smoothbore brunswick and parts gun. in fact it took longer to move around the UK than to order and ship. I am very happy with the gun as its all complete. The condition is far better than the photos, mine has a couple of woodworm holes and the odd crack. Neither are a problem. I also purchased a parts gun which is all complete except the hammer, so far I dont think I will need it. Well done IMA I am very happy, even more so as it was purchased on special.
