Original Items. Only One Group Available. This is a great set of equipment that would make for an outstanding mannequin display depicting a Korean War U.S. Navy Pilot. The set consists of the H4 Helmet with the interior helmet and goggles, a lightweight nylon flight suit, and a “Mae West” style flotation vest.
The H-4 features a rigid shell with reinforcing ridges and is constructed of a fiberglass cloth reinforced with epoxy resin. For this model a cloth inner helmet which incorporated the earphones was utilized. This was secured to the rigid shell by "pull the dot" snap fasteners on the cheek flaps and in some cases with additional straps attached to snap fastener in front and in the back of the rigid shell.
This H-4 retains the inner helmet and is in fair overall condition with a microphone, headphones in the inner helmet, and chinstrap. The paint of the helmet is heavily worn and the Navy Pilot’s wings to the front are almost gone. The Rochester Optical USN B-8 goggles are in great condition. The interior shows heavy wear but this helmet will still look great for display. The helmet is named LEX in multiple places. One of the snap straps for the inner helmet is broken off, but is now snapped on and hanging.
The nylon flightsuit is in good condition although there is some fraying of the material. The suit retains the tag:
SUIT, FLYING, NYLON, LT. WT.
BU. AERO - U.S. NAVY
CONTRACT NO. NOA(S)3927
THE DRYBAK CORPORATION
SIZE 38M
The zipper is in good shape, as are the snaps. The “Mae West” style flotation jacket is in good condition but there are no markings we could find, but one of the rubber inserts inside the jacket has a date of 1956, so still good for Korean War era issue.
This is an outstanding set that will fit well into your collection on a mannequin! Ready for further research and display.
