Original U.S. WWII 811th Tank Destroyer Battalion Named Grouping

Item Description

Original Items: One-of-a-kind Set. Staff Sergeant Kenneth G Parmerter was in the headquarters company of the 811th Tank Destroyer Battalion after going the army on April 03, 1942. His Army serial number was 32279889.

Included in this wonderful grouping are the following:

• Ike Jacket in excellent condition with correct tank destroyer badge, Staff Sergeant Chevrons, ruptured duck, medal ribbons as follows: World War II Victory, Army Good Conduct, European-Africa, Middle Eastern Campaign with three battle stars, and the American Campaign military ribbon. The tunic is size 38 R.
• Overseas cap with correct Black/Orange piping denoting Tank Destroyer. Inside the cap the numbers P9889 are written which denote (Private Serial 32279889). Parameter entered the Army as a Private 1st Class.
• Army Exchange Ration Card dated 7-24-1945
• Honorable Discharge laminated card denoting service in ARDENESS, CENTRAL EUROPE, RHINELAND.
• Two post cards written in German with post marks of 2-9-40 and 25-5-43.
• Newspaper The Blue Ridger dated Monday May 8th, 1945. The 80th only moves forward
• Map titled The Blue Ridge Path that outlines the path the 80th infantry division made through Europe from D-Day to VE day and beyond.

811th Tank Destroyer History: Activated 10 April, 1942, at Camp Gordon, Georgia. Arrived at Cherbourg, France, on 15 September, 1944, equipped with M18's. Moved to Luxembourg in November and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in December. The battalion was scattered widely and pieces attached to many divisions into January, 1945. Supported operations against the Siegfried Line in February and early March. Advanced to the Rhine in late March and crossed river on 30 March. Supported 80th Infantry Division in capture of Kassel and advance to Erfurt and Chemnitz in April. Moved south and crossed Danube River to Regensburg. Entered Austria on 5 May. Attached to: 17th, 101st Airborne divisions; 4th, 9th, 11th Armored divisions; 28th, 78th, 80th, 87th, 89th Infantry divisions; 3d Cavalry Group.
