Original Scottish Victorian Era Officer Sash Plate of the Highland Infantry- Circa 1903

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Created in 1881 by combining two ancient Scottish regiments; the 71st Highland Light Infantry and the 74th Highland Regiment of Foot the accumulated Battle Honors shown on the outer border of this sash plate number 30 engagements!

The sash plate was an enhanced version of the regimental badge with a large silver back plate listing the regiment's glories of past campaigns dating back to the 1600s. Officer's sash plates are usually high quality and constructed from silver.

This example shows a Victorian Crown and the battle honors include TEL-EL-KABIR of 1884 as well as South Africa 1899-1902 which was the Second Boer War. So we estimate the issue of this plate between 1903-1914.

The battles honors back plate is in turn mounted on another silver circular plain back plate that has a large pin assembly to the rear for penetrating the thick tartan shoulder sash. In total the plate measures 4-inches across and is extremely decorative and comes from one of Scotland's finest regiments.
