Original Pre-WWI British Royal Fusiliers Trooper Bearskin Busby – Dated 1912

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is in remarkable condition, a totally original and correct trooper's cropped bearskin busby that belonged to a soldier in the Royal Fusiliers, once known as the 7th Regiment of Foot.

The bearskin is in near perfect condition and comes complete with chained brass chin scales, the correct white horsehair hackle to the right side and the King's crown regimental helmet badge taking the form of a flaming bomb.

Inside the helmet there is a maker’s label:

J. COMPTON & SONS

7 1/8 (1/8 crossed out)

1912

Also there is a War Department stamp with Broad Arrow and a 1912 date, as well as the marking:

11

13

This could indicate the battalion and/or brigade that this was issued to, and there is even partially legible writing inside, which could be a name. This Busby is already over 100 years of age, having been stored and well-cared for, and makes a fantastic display piece, as well as having further research potential.
