Original North African Mardi Era Broad Sword with Scabbard- Circa 1880

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Item Available. This is a massive crusader style broadsword dating from the 1880s originating from the Mardi period in the Sudan where General Gordon was massacred at Khartoum in 1884.

Overall length 41-inches with over 36 inches of straight broad fighting blade the style still being used at the time of the famous crusader swords of the 13th and 14th centuries, comes complete with iron cross bar guard and leather wrapped grip. Also included is the all leather tooled scabbard with characteristic swell to tip.

Almost certainly a British soldier's "War Trophy" brought back after the Battle of OMDURMANN in 1898 when Great Britain finally, after 14 years, retook the Sudan with an army led by General Horatio Kitchener.

A fine example with a multi-fullered blade with back-to-back man on the moon face proof marks on either side.
