Original Indian Tulwar Battle Sword - Circa 1790

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The Tulwar is a traditional fighting sword of ancient India with examples going back nearly 500 years. This particular example is very interesting in that it is fitted with a short but very wide blade dating it to the late 1700s.

The characteristic hilt has the tradition "disc" on the pommel and this example also has a single branch finger guard a unique feature that is very rarely occasionally found on Tulwars. The blade bears what appears to be a maker's mark and is extremely sturdy.

This sword originates from our Nepalese cache purchase of 2003 and has only had the blade cleaned. The hilt and the blade under the hilt have been left just as we found it after more than 175 years in storage.
