An original German WW2 MG34 display machine gun, totally inert with no federal restrictions on ownership. The barrel jacket, bolt, and top cover of this gun all bear the serial number 1384 and the set features three wartime substitute spare barrels with carriers. This MG 34 bears original Waffenamt inspection marks, and is offered in very good to excellent condition.
Released in the 1970s from military stores in Portugal, this is one of just 500 MG34 LMGs produced by WW2 Germany and delivered to Portugal in early 1944. Portugal had adopted the MG 34 in 1940, originally designating it the M/940, but re-designating it the M/944 when this particular shipment arrived.
Straight off the German WW2 production line in Bruno, each gun was coded "dot," which stands for Waffenwerke Brunn A.G. of Brno. The production date of 1944 and individual MG contract delivery number, No.821, are stamped on the top cover together with the subcontracting maker code of "brp" (Mannesmann-Rohrenwerke A.G.of Dusseldorf).
This weapon comes in the original near perfect condition wood transit chest. The transit chest has individual compartments for the bipod and the Bakelite butt stock, so each could be stowed securely. The MG itself has a supporting frame to hold it stationary whilst being transported. Also included, in a custom compartment, is a dark leather gunner's kit containing a correct original oiler, double-ended wrench marked BSW, broken shell extractor, anti-aircraft spider sight, hot barrel pad, and a bolt numbered to the gun. Note: closing strap to gunner's kit is non-functional.
This offering is outstanding. It includes four original live barrels and a fully inert display receiver made from original MG 34 components, all contained in its original wood transit chest.
