Original German Manufactured British Victorian Era Officer Saber by W.R. Kirschbaum

Item Description

Original Item: These sabers are over 120 years old! The knight's head logo has become well known to the collecting community as it was registered to the renowned German sword maker W.R. Kirschbaum in 1876. In 1883 the company was merged and later known as Weyersberg, Kirshbaum & Company, which quickly became the primary edged weapon producer of the German military machine over the subsequent two World Wars. WKC also supplied countless other governments and is still in existence today.

This sword, with slightly curved blade, is one of a small group recovered from former British stores discovered in Katmandu, Nepal. Basically, this three bar steel hilted cavalry saber follows the lines of the British Model of 1822 but is more substantially constructed being heavily influenced by the Prussian Officer's Saber of 1855 (See illustration # 501 in the book W.K.C. Catalog Plate #2). Leather bound grip with blackstrap reinforcement and comes with heavy two ring all steel scabbard and is a classic issue for Officers in the Victorian era.

Each is offered totally un-cleaned, other than to uncover the maker's logo these appear in fine condition for you to clean yourself. To further inspire your enthusiasm we include a 1997 reprint of the hard cover maker's catalog of WKC (9.5"x 6.5", approx 140 pages containing 65 original adverting Plates each featuring an average of five items).

A seldom-encountered opportunity to acquire a German made and marked, British Military issue saber from prior to 1883. Interestingly enough in 1886 there was such an outrage expressed in the British Parliament over "Arms being supplied by Germany" that the famous "Wilkinson Sword Company" was formed by the ancient gun making and sword making family of Wilkinson with the association of Rudolph Kirschbaum to allay these protests.

This is a wonderful opportunity to own your very own British Victorian officer's saber with scabbard, just as it came from 120 years of military storage together with a copy of the manufacturer's catalog to read all about it.
