Original British WWII SMLE .303 Enfield Action Cover Savage-Stevens No. 4 Rifle- Dated 1942

Item Description

Original Item: We found a crate with just a few of these genuine WW2 manufactured canvas action covers! Before the US was forced into WW2 by the attack on Pearl Harbor, we were helping the British fight the Axis powers by providing massive amounts of aid, including No. 4 Enfields made by Savage-Stevens corporation in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, close to our own Springfield Armory. The British liked to issue action covers to their infantry to keep dirt out of the mechanism under field conditions. Since action covers were fabric, most were worn out and discarded or destroyed eventually. Almost all the action covers that have been available to the collector have been made in Britain or in Commonwealth countries, many post-war. IMA has found a few original action covers manufactured in the United States by Savage-Stevens in 1942. The quality of these covers is well above that of any others we've seen.

TO REPEAT: THESE ARE ORIGINAL ACTION COVERS MANUFACTURED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE U.S.-MADE NO. 4 RIFLES.

All are marked with the square-S Savage-Stevens logo. We have very few, and this opportunity is unlikely to happen again.

May show some storage stains or signs of light use, but will be in good to very good usable condition. Not all will have leather tie strap, as many have rotted out over time. If you want to ensure that you get the leather strap, please have the item selected from best in stock and leave instructions to receive one with the strap.
