Original British WWII Named Royal Air Force Pith Sun Helmet with Transit Tin by Gieves

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Right out of the family attic! In splendid original condition A Royal Airforce Wolseley Pattern Foreign Service Helmet, by Gieves Limited, Royal Naval Outfitters, in its original cloth bag and painted steel box.

This has it all: complete with leather headband and chinstrap it retains a substantial cloth pugaree. A pugaree is the cloth wrap, which still bears it's unit's color flash to the left side. The unit flash is made up of three vertical bands of Black/Grey/Maroon indicating use by the Royal Air Force. The inside of the helmet is in lovely condition with a makers label in the crown that reads GIEVES LTD, ROYAL NAVAL OUTFITTERS. The helmet comes with an original linen carry bag complete with is pajama type fastening cord.

Also included is a named transit tin that reads:

C.B. Horsfield
R.A.F.

The tin also bears a brass maker shield that read GIEVES and an original Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co baggage decal still adhered to the tin! Upon opening the transit chest the base in lined with a sheet of THE EGYPTIAN GAZETTE and is dated Thursday, January 27th 1938. Amazing.
