Original British EIC Irregular Cavalry Percussion Carbine In Musket Bore - Dated 1852

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This came in our Nepal purchase of 2003 and was the only

example exactly like it. This is a pretty standard Irregular Cavalry saddle ring Carbine with double Saddle Rings on the bar.

The lock is nicely marked C. MAYBURY and dated 1852. The brass butt plate tang is engraved B TROOP, 2ND CAVALRY. After David Harding’s work Small Arms of the East India Company Volume 2 page 511, the 2nd Punjab Irregular Cavalry raised in 1849 used percussion carbines of musket bore.

The barrel is .65 bore and 22" in length and bears British proof marks. On the underside of the barrel the marker name appears as J. CLIVE

The carbine is fitted with a swivel ramrod to allow reloading while mounted and has been fitted with regular sling mounts. Beautifully cleaned and ready to display.
