British WWII Helmet Decals Instructions for applying water transfer decals to a helmet: To apply the decal to the helmet, soak decal in lukewarm water for 2 to 3 minutes. Slide decal off paper backing into desired location on the helmet. Press into place; be sure to remove any air pockets that may be under the decal. Air dry for approximately 1 hour. A tip for “authentic looking” decal application; heat oven to 170° then bake the helmet for 10-15 minutes, monitor progress very carefully, after the decal has air-dried, increase heat to 250°. Watch the helmet carefully while at this higher temperature so the decal does not bubble or turn color. This process will help the decal appear to be an aged “original”. The goal is not to feel the edge of the decal when you rub your finger across it. Finally, apply a light coating of clear lacquer over the decal, air dry, then re-bake at 170° for 3-5 minutes. Good Luck!
Application is at your own risk. |
