A breif history of the Deutsche Afrika Korp (DAK)
Officially named the Deutches Afrika Korp (DAK) by Hitler on 19th, February 1941; Nazi troops had been hurried to North Africa to assist the collapsing Italian Armies that Mussolini had ordered to invade Egypt in September 1940. The Germans, under General Rommel, arrived on February 14th, 1941 and the war took a very different turn.
The crack German Afrika Korp devastated Allied units driving them all the way back into Egypt. Only at El Alemein, over 20 months later, were the Allies able to turn the tide. In 24 short months Rommel's Afrika Korp went from stunning Victory after Victory to final defeat but left behind a Military Legacy that commanded the unending respect of the Allies and Military Strategists then and ever since.
