Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This uniform set is not only appealing to the eye but is also of great historical significance. Despite appearing to be a standard Brigadier-General's WWII dated Korean War Class-A uniform set, there are a few distinctive features that set it apart from others. The uniform belonged to Brigadier General George Edward Martin. The uniform itself is in excellent condition and boasts impressive devices, a “theater made” ribbon rack and a bullion embroidered SSI, making it truly stand out. While we have not been able to source much information on General Martin, we do know that he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1927. He retired as a U.S. Army Major General.
What makes this uniform truly stand out is the Eighth Army “Korea” bullion embroidered shoulder sleeve insignia. The 7th Infantry Division, during the entire year of 1951, was a member of the Eighth United States Army in Korea and committed to combat except for short periods in reserve.
The jacket boasts several unique features that set it apart from other military jackets. The obvious General star device on the epaulets are particularly noteworthy, as they indicate the 4th highest rank possible in the US Army and are just beautiful. A medal ribbon bar is also present on the jacket, which would have been used to display the General's various military honors and awards, which all appear to be correct and present.
While only the service coat is not named, we are absolutely confident that it was in fact the General’s Uniform and came out of a small museum collection. The uniform coat is in excellent condition, with no visible signs of extensive wear or damage.
A wonderful, historical uniform set that comes with research and more than ready for further research and display.
