Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful example of a fully marked Chinese Type 73 100mm “smoothbore gun Shelling tungsten core armor-piercing projectile” or simply a 100mm APFSDS (Armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot), as used with the Type 73 gun.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
The Type 73 100mm towed smoothbore antitank gun was developed in the mid-1970s as a result of China’s research on the 100mm smoothbore gun technology. The Type 73 is China’s first artillery gun that can fire the armour piercing fin stabilised discarding sabot (APFSDS) round. The Type 73 entered operational service with the PLA between 1981 and 1983 to replace the Type 56 85mm antitank gun. Apart from being used for the anti-armour purpose, the Type 73 could also be used for direct fire on soft targets such as bunkers, fortifications, non-armoured vehicles, and infantry soldiers.
This example is in fantastic condition and still retains the discarding sabot though it is in two pieces. The sabot consists of 4 parts all connected by a copper driving band. The one half, consisting of 2 parts, has become separated due to weakened points in the copper. Measures approximately 21 inches in overall length.
A fantastic example that comes more than ready for further research and display.
