Item Description

Original Items: Only One Available. We have received a remarkable medal set that belonged to T/Sgt Howard W. Livingston, a distinguished member of the United States Army Air Forces. Although the medal is not engraved, we are confident that it belongs to him based on where the medal was purchased. The medal in the set is an Army Air Force Air Medal, which is a highly esteemed military decoration that recognizes exceptional acts of bravery and meritorious achievements during aerial flight missions. This prestigious medal was created in 1942 and has since been awarded to countless brave men and women who have displayed extraordinary courage and skill while serving their country.

The 493d Bombardment Group was a former unit of the United States Army Air Forces, which was assigned to the 92d Bombardment Wing during World War II. It was the last bombardment group to be assigned to the Eighth Air Force. The group flew combat missions in the strategic bombing campaign against Germany until shortly before V-E Day. Afterward, it returned to the United States for inactivation. In 2002, the group was converted to provisional status as the 493d Air Expeditionary Group, and it was assigned to Air Mobility Command to activate or inactivate as needed.

The medal is in wonderful condition but the ribbon bar does show age toning, fading and slight fraying.

A lovely set ready for further research and display.
